Playground session
Reflection written by using the STARR method
For our professional career development in the live music and dance events sector students had to organise playground sessions in groups. These sessions can be seen as lectures by other students or guest speaker on a topic surrounding the sector and are held to provide you with information and knowledge on this topic. My groups chosen topic for this assignment was trends and developments the other two playground sessions given by other students that I attended were about entrepreneurship and drug use in events.
During the playground sessions that I attended I was an active listener/participant. In the one we organised I was expected to provide a valuable and interactive 1.5 - 2 hour session surrounding the topic trends and developments in the event sector. I expected to create something fun and creative.
Since this was a group project we tried setting a meeting date but since it is already at the ending of the year and the start of the festival season everyone is very busy and it was hard to set a date. This is why we decided on creating a share dcanva presentation and communicating via teams to keep the rest of the group informed and discuss ideas. We decided to use susutainibility, crowd safety, AI and mental health as topics in the presentation. Before the playground session we had to discuss with our coach what we wanted to do and receive feedback. I was not there during the feedback session and was informed that it was mentioned that sustainibility was not a trend or development and the name should be changed, that it was to clear that the presentation was made by different people not together and that if one person had a discussion or assignment, each topic would need that. before the playground session our coach had people fill in a survey and made an announcement of a lecture. The presentation itself went well but became very repetative and whe struggled to keep the attention of the students.
We should have started earlier on the assignment and it would be helpful if we communicated at an earlier moment with our coach. we received feedback that some parts took a bit long and videos used were too long as well.
we got tips on the examples we used and that the energizer was a fun way to start the session! We received specific compliments on the sustainibility part and the safety and security. It was mentioned that the presentation ''lacked cohesion and that more emphasis on trends and/or developments within the topics/fields presented was needed. ''I found it a bit weird that sustainibility was not considered as a trend or development as in lectures this is the most common one mentioned and therefore we changed the name to sustainable initiatives.
It was a bumpy ride but overall I feel like we delivered a fun and informative session. Next time I would choose to start earlier and really sit together with the group to work out the specifics and perhaps create more fun and engaging assignments for inbetween. Overall I enjoyed the session and doing the specific research to get more knowledge on the topic. Looking back at the 2 sessions that I attended I found the concept of the playground sessions very interesting. The drug use one was actually a great fit for me since I was writing a report on it this really inspired me to start on it and gave some basic knowledge it more so focussed on discussing which made it fun to attend. The last one that I attended was about entrepreneurship, this was also interesting to me as I want to start working for myself. However I felt like mostly common knowledge was shared which made it less interesting to pay attention. Overall I really liked these session and find it sad that I had to miss out on one.
