Security/Safety

Reflection written by using the STARR method

On Wednesday the 9th of april I attended the career tools workshop of security and safety in events. This workshop was led by a guest speaker who is working at crowdcom at put focus on crowd management. We got an explanation of how crowdcom goes to work at events by placing cameras, density scanners and camera's that count people from one place at the event site they live monitor everything backstage.

During the workshop we got taught to understand how different roles and jobs contribute to safety at an event. We had to sort cards tat had the function of an even job such as artist manager, head of security, finance, traffic control, municipality etc. in groups we had to choose an event to focus on for the assignment. We had to choose which roles would be needed for that event and map out through who the communications would go and  consider how emergency scenarios would be managed especially what communication lines would be used and who would be responsible for decisions. we choose Verknipt indoor at Johan Cruyff arena. We choose roles we thpught would be needed for safety and control at the event: Head of Security, Traffic Control, First Aid, Municipality, and Crowd Safety Manager and many more. After that we discussed what would happen in an emergency and identified how communication would flow. We did not know this very well and learner that every department has there wn CP - Central Post.

I now understand how detailed security and safety planning must be for events. I also learned how many people are involved behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly. The group task helped me think about how to think strategically about event roles. It highlighted the importance of having pre-planned communication structures and a chain of command. I realized that during an emergency, confusion can make situations and communication worse if roles are not clearly mentioned.  The session made me more aware of how crowd safety is so important for successful event management. I now see the value of learning more about emergency protocols and risk assessments. In the future I would like to explore a course in event safett/crowd management to strengthen my event manager skills
