Website building
Reflection written by using the STARR method
As part of the Career Tools classes, I attended a website-making workshop on Wednesday of 30 October at school. This session was led by Tim a fellow student of the live music and dance event specialisation. Tim introduced us to making a website by using the platform Wix. He shared helpful videos and information to guide us through the process of how to create a website.
During the workshop, I payed attention and tried to remember the basics of how to use Wix, and begin creating a website myself. The goal was to get an understanding of how to use the platform and take the first steps toward building a professional site.
I followed along and tried to get started on Wix, however the platform was unfortunately crashing due to high server usage with so many students logged in at once. Because of this I wasn’t able to actually work on my website during the session itself. I still listened to the instructions, watched the videos, and remembered as much information as I could.
By the end of the workshop, I didn’t have a functioning website, but I did have a basic understanding of how Wix works and what steps to take to get started. More importantly, the session gave me the inspiration to continue working on a website afterward. Tough I didn't use WIX looking back on it a few months later I see that the workshop played a role in helping me take that first step.
Even with the technical issues making the workshop less productive in the moment it was still valuable. It showed me that website creation is a bit more easy than I thought and gave me the push I needed to start working on it on my own. I appreciate the effort put into this session and in the future I maybe would like to experiment more with design and creation online.
