Smart goal 5

INVESTIGATIVE ABILITY

Shows that you can do research. Start with a research question/problem (I want to gain more knowledge of the numbers in the Live Music market,I want to research jobs in the industry, etc.), then find the right research methods to go with it (desk research, field research, interviews, surveys, etc.) and start doing research, lastly review the results and come up with conclusions.

SMART Goal 5: Gaining insight into drug use at events.

I aim to deepen my understanding of drug use at events by investigating this topic from event attendees point of view. To achieve this, I will conduct surveys and interviews with 30 event visitors and review at least three scholarly articles or credible reports on the subject. The collected data will be thoroughly analyzed, culminating in the writing of a research paper that synthesizes findings and offers informed conclusions. This project is scheduled for completion by June 8th, 2025 and will serve to enhance my investigative skills through a structured research process.

S – Specific

The goal is explicitly focused on understanding drug use at events, capturing insights from visitors through primary research (surveys and interviews) and from existing literature through desk research. This targeted approach defines a clear research problem and scope.

M – Measurable

Success will be measured by completing 30 surveys/interviews and reviewing a minimum of three articles. The final output a research paper will integrate and analyze this data, providing a tangible deliverable to demonstrate achievement.

A – Achievable

The goal is realistic given the resources and time available. Recruiting 30 participants for surveys and interviews is manageable, and accessing relevant academic articles or reports is feasible via libraries or online databases.

R – Relevant

This goal supports the development of my investigative ability by requiring me to formulate a clear research question, select appropriate mixed research methods, gather and analyze data, and draw evidence-based conclusions. It enhances critical thinking and research skills vital for the events sector.

T – Time-bound

The project is bound by a firm deadline of June 8th, 2025, ensuring timely execution and completion of each research phase data collection, analysis, and report writing.
