Photo/videographic design
Reflection written by using the STARR method
As a part of the career tools classes I attended a photo/videographic design training session on Wednesday, 27 November. The session was done by a guest speaker named Nadia who is a content creator on YouTube (@MybrainNN) and Instagram (@hopelens). She shared her insights and experiences of her creative journey and process with the group.
During this session, my role was to listen to Nadia’s experience and advice as a small content creator. After her talk, we were given a group assignment to apply some of the concepts she discussed by creating content around a chosen theme.
Nadia talked about how important consistency and making scripts are. She also mentioned that editing is very time consuming and how short content if performing better then longer videos.
After sharing her experiences Nadia gave us an assignment. For this assignment I collaborated with three classmates to develop a concept to promote a fictional event. We selected the theme fashion show and decided to give it a unique twist by incorporating an animal print theming. With Canva we designed a promotional poster that would be part of a short video campaign.
Considering the limited time we had, the end result was not the best. Nadia commented that the video was nice and showed potential but could benefit from a bit more creativity. I felt satisfied with what we produced in the little time we had and liked the experience of doing something new.
I discovered that while content creation may not be my passion of interest, I did enjoy hearing about Nadia’s experiences and stepping outside my comfort zone. The session helped me better understand the effort and planning behind even short-form visual content, and I liked the assignment and being creative with my fellow students. Trying something new gave me a deeper appreciation for the work of content creators.
